Browns agree to terms with 22 undrafted rookies - Browns - Ohio

The NFL lockout is finally over, just in time for training camp!  The Browns have already added 22 undrafted rookies to help fill out the roster for camp.

In a normal offseason, teams sign those players immediately after the draft in late April. The league’s lockout, however, kept the usual process from unfolding and left undrafted free agents in limbo.

NFL teams were finally allowed to sign undrafted rookies Tuesday. The Browns agreed to deals with 22, a team spokesman said. The Browns have yet to announce the names of the undrafted rookies with whom they have agreed to terms. The following is an unofficial list of 17 compiled from several reports:

Happy 4th of July!

“You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness.  You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.”
-Erma Bombeck

'Second Chances' are always in style

Pretty awesome way to use some recycled items and help animals get a much needed “Second Chance.”

The ''Second Chances'' event was designed and choreographed by the school's art students, under the capable tutelage of Sherrine Selzer, professional artist/art instructor. It was quite the production.

Showcased by student models and designers were 25 garments you'd be hard-pressed to find at any store, fashioned from what Selzer termed ''found'' or recycled items. Everything from garbage bags to duct tape, Bubble Wrap to balloons to butcher paper, cereal boxes, sheet music, pop cans, gift-wrap ribbons, cellophane, sheer curtains and bed
sheets.

Should You Switch to "Cell Phone Only" Service in Your Apartment?

These are some great tips to think about when deciding if you want to keep your home phone service or stick with just your cell phone:

Now that cell phones are affordable and nearly ubiquitous, paying for a landline in your apartment can seem like an unnecessary expense. Cell phones are fantastic, but they aren’t perfect, and traditional phone service still retains a few reliable benefits.

Don’t forget to file your taxes by Monday, April 18th

Before you rush to file your taxes today, remember that you actually have three more days to get your forms turned in to the tax man.

Instead of being due on April 15, which is typically the filing deadline, your taxes are due Mon., April 18 this year.

The three bonus days come thanks to Emancipation Day, a little-known Washington, D.C., holiday that celebrates the freeing of slaves in the district.

Emancipation Day falls on Sat., April 16, but it is observed in D.C. on Fri., April 15. That prompted the IRS to extend the tax filing deadline to April 18 this year. Under the tax code, filing deadlines can't fall on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays.

Dish spots caused by lack of phosphates in detergent

Have you noticed that your dishes and glassware have been coming out more spotted and cloudy than before? As of July 1, 2010, all dishwasher detergent manufacturers voluntarily eliminated phosphates from their products in response to the requests of 16 states. Phosphates helped the cleaning process, but were banned due to their negative effect on the environment.

Mineral deposits are what you see left behind as the water evaporates. This is commonly called lime scale or hard water scale. This inconvenience is now more pronounced on dishes because of the elimination of phosphates in dishwasher detergents which helped keep the minerals "bound up," or in solution, so that they were not easily deposited on dishes.

When buying dishwashing detergent next time, you’ll also want to purchase a bottle of dishwasher additive or rinse aid to help reduce the spots left behind by the mineral deposits. You can also try turning off the heated drying cycle on your dishwasher and allowing the dishes to air dry to help eliminate the problem.

We want you to know that your dishwasher is not causing the problem!! By sharing a few suggestions with you, we hope to help your dishwasher perform at its best, as well as explaining ways to help keep your items from getting damaged.

Always rinse food off dishes before placing them in the dishwasher. This will help receive the best cleaning results. You’ll also want to sure to run the water in the kitchen sink until it becomes hot before starting your dishwasher. By doing this you will begin the wash cycle with hot water, if you don’t, you will be washing your dishes in cold water; this may not get the dishes as clean as you wish. Don’t forget to add your rinse aid!

The following loading list will get you the best cleaning results and avoid damage.

  1. Always rinse excessive food off dishes before placing them in the dishwasher. This will help receive the best cleaning results. You’ll also want to run the water in the kitchen sink until it becomes hot before starting your dishwasher. By doing this you will begin the wash cycle with hot water, if you don’t, you will be washing your dishes in cold water; this may not get the dishes as clean as you wish. Don’t forget to add your rinse aid!
  2. Load large items at the sides and back of the dishwasher, so that they don't block water and detergent from reaching other dishes.
  3. Place the dirtier side of dishes toward the center of the machine to provide more exposure to the spray. Don't let dishes or utensils nest, or rest side by side, which can prevent water from reaching all surfaces.
  4. Use the top rack for plastic and delicate items that are dishwasher safe.
  5. Rest glassware on prongs to prevent breakage. And to prevent chipping, make sure that china, crystal, and stemware don't touch other items. You should never place brass, bronze, cast iron, disposable plastics, gold-colored flatware, gold-leaf china, hollow-handle knives, pewter, tin, or anything made of wood or with a wood handle in the dishwasher.
  6. Load silverware with handles down but place knives with the handles up. If your dishwasher has an open basket, mix spoons, forks, and knives to prevent them from sticking together.
  7. Place items needing more cleaning attention facedown and toward the sprayer in the bottom rack.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

We want to wish all our fans a Happy St. Patrick’s Day!  Check out the link below for some fun St. Patricks’s Day facts:

St. Patrick’s Day is observed on March 17 because that is the feast day of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. It is believed that he died on March 17 in the year 461 AD. It is also a worldwide celebration of Irish culture and history. St. Patrick’s Day is a national holiday in Ireland, and a provincial holiday in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The actual color of St. Patrick is blue. Green became associated with St. Patrick's Day during the 19th century. Green, in Irish legends, was worn by fairies and immortals, and also by people to encourage their crops to grow.

Daylight Savings Time Begins on March 13

Daylight savings time is coming up this weekend.  Don’t forget to set your clocks forward!

Every year, daylight savings time seems to take people by surprise. In the United States, daylight savings time begins on March 13 at 2 a.m. local time except in parts of Arizona and Hawaii. As the popular saying goes, clocks need to "spring forward" to observe the change. In other words, clocks need to be set ahead by one hour when the clock strikes 2 a.m.
